Pretty Little Topiary + County Fair

If you know me, you know I can’t go too long without painting a Shabby/Cottage Chic painting. While on Pinterest, I was searching for something else and came across a picture of a topiary in a vase which inspired me to paint this:

Many of my friends and family encouraged me to enter it in the county fair this week. It’s a good think I listened – it received a 2nd place award! It’s still on display at the fair but I’ll have it back after Sunday and it will be available for purchase.

Each time I paint a Shabby Chic inspired piece, I fall in love with it all over again. I’d say it’s a safe bet to think that you’ll see similar pieces very soon. 🙂

Country Farmhouse Decor

How much are you loving the Farmhouse Decor style that’s so popular right now? Everywhere I turn, I am inspired by this decorating trend. It’s clean, yet stylish and personable. There’s no doubt that we owe this to Chip & Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper/Magnolia Market. The design style is perfection…at least to many of us.

Being inspired by something – I mean genuinely inspired by something – is such a blessing! I’m talking about the truly inspired, down deep in your soul, moving kind of thing. Recently, a friend suggested I join a DIY farmhouse inspired group and since then, all sorts of new ideas and plans have filled my head and my notebooks!

If asked, I would sum up the idea of the Farmhouse Style with the warmth of wooden signs that speak of family, practical pieces that have function and a cozy aspect that makes a house into a home. Did I miss something?

Here’s a brand new item coming from The Cozy Loft I’ll have available very soon:

This is a standard size mason jar with a silver lid and I’ve hand painted a goat on there along with some black dots for contrast around the piece. This would be beautiful for kitchen storage and decor or would also be perfect on a desk, vanity or really anywhere your imagination can place it.

I love that I can offer so many things to make others happy. It’s what drives me and what pushes my creativity. Just wait til you see the other new goods I’m working on.

Hand Painted Miniature/Dollhouse Signs

Happy 2017! I hope your year is off to a WONDERFUL start and if not, I hope it turns that direction as soon as possible!

I have a great deal of success with my Christmas ornaments and have been working to find something to create the rest of the year. While the ornaments sell year round, there are times when it’s a full time job (more than a full time job if I’m being real about that) but there are many times where it’s just too too quiet.

This year, I plan on trying several things that interest me. For a long time (and you remember this if you’ve followed my blog a while), I have had interest in Shabby Chic decor as well as miniatures. This sort of inspired me to create a few new items:

And then, I wanted to do a little rustic one…you know for log cabin enthusiasts like myself 🙂

Click any of the photos to go directly to the listing on ebay if you’re interested in seeing more about them.

And, most of all, thanks for sticking with me through all my changes and through feeling my way around. Eventually, just maybe I’ll have it all together with a direction and a purpose. Somehow, it feels closer than it ever has 🙂

Engagement Gift

I’ve created a new ornament all about the proposal! For this one, I wanted to show the man on one knee holding out a beautiful engagement ring and the woman delighted with the scene in front of her. I hope I captured this most happiest occasion:

I so love my job and creating precious ornaments that are sure to be treasured for life. It makes people happy, so what more could I possibly want? ❤

These are available in my shop here. I thought they’d make a sweet gift for a precious friend or relative who just got engaged or even a treasure for their bridal shower.

Mother of the Bride (or Groom) Gift

One of my most favorite things to paint is Christmas ornaments. Oh how I delight in creating them and have often wished  for this to be something I could do year round instead of just seasonally. Lately I’ve been thinking that just maybe this is possible.

I’ve sold Christmas ornaments in my etsy shop called The Cozy Loft since I opened it in 2008. This has been something that seems to come easily to me and I’ve been able to paint anything people have asked me to paint on them. It’s a gift from God that I have this ability and am 100% sure this is not something I am doing on my own.

This was ordered from a sweet Bride as a gift for her mother and I had the pleasure of creating it by using photos from her of the dresses and of the ladies:

I apologize for the flash but it was a cloudy morning and I needed to get it in the mail so  this is the best I could do. Still, I love it and wanted to share it with you. These are listed here and are available as Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom gifts. They are personalized with dress styles, hair colors, hair styles, hair length, bridal bouquet colors and whatever you’d like the back to say.

Inside my shop, there’s an ornament section where you’ll find couples, pets, Father of the Bride or Father of the Groom ornaments and much more.

I can see these kinds of things being gifted all year, not just at Christmas time. Christmas ornaments are ideal to gift as they are sure to be a forever keepsake and treasured…plus they will be displayed every year at Christmas. I just can’t think of a better, more special gift.

The Cozy Loft

When I formed my little cottage industry over 8 years ago, I had dreams for it but nothing like the dreams it has allowed me to dream for it since. Life had taken some twists and turns for me and I’d started painting again after some tough years. People where I worked were requesting and buying different goods from me and people were really beginning to notice my work.

My first shop and blog banner, 2008

I needed to come up with a name for it, though. Something that would fit my business and have a feeling of warmth and cuteness, too.  It took a long time to come up with The Cozy Loft name. Using a thesaurus, I was on a mission. This was extremely important! I wrote page after page of words down then chose words I liked together, then checked online to see if anyone was using it. If so, I’d move on. If not, I’d check several additional sites including Facebook and Twitter to see if it was available there also. If not, then I’d move on. If so, then it would go down as a possibility.  The list of possibilities came to an abrupt halt when I put together thecozyloft. I was extremely excited to look into this name and even more so when I found no one was using it! One of the very basic business ideas is that you create your own brand. So, that was exactly what I wanted to do.

That’s how The Cozy Loft was born many years ago. I never dreamed that I would meet so many wonderful people through it and I never dreamed of how much it would grow…and I would grow. It’s eight years strong now so I’ll have to do something super special at 10 years, won’t I? 🙂

It’s truly been a gift from God and I’m thankful for it.

Rhonda
