Inktober Days 10-11

They say that if you really want to do something bad enough, you’ll do it. I say that’s mostly true but sometimes you simply cannot. I was slaying Inktober…until Day 12. As most of you know, this time of year is when my shop goes nuts with custom hand painted ornament orders. Those things have to be done – well if I want to earn a living from this (and I do lol) – so between that and my left hand in a brace…I am unable to continue Inktober.

I was having SO much fun! Here are a couple of pieces of evidence of that…

Day 10’s prompt word was “flowing” and check it out:

Day 11’s word was “cruel” and here’s the result:

In the interest of full disclosure, my best friend gave me the concept for the “cruel” painting…my devious mind is apparently not up to par with hers. HA!!! Love you Maria!

As long as I’m not doing small work like the ink drawings and the ornaments, I can get by with my left hand okay. So, larger projects seem to be working for me. I have more to share but will do that on separate posts later this week when I have all the photos ready.

This was my first time attempting Inktober…and if all goes my way, it won’t be the last. 🙂

Inktober Days 2-5

Inktober continues and I’m enjoying it SO much! I thought I’d do just a handful of posts this month rather than one post each day. Since these are really done on breaks I have between other paintings that are commissioned or new pieces I’ve already had in mind, these are extras. I’m having so much fun doing them though! Let’s see if it shows…

Day 2’s prompt word was “tranquil” so I thought of meditation because that’s something I’ve been working on during my daily Bible study. This painting was a night painting and I didn’t feel the original watercolors I did really justified the mood so I added acrylic paints. This made my ink almost completely lost. I did go back over my ink so it would show up a little better in some spots and indications. This one is called “Revive. It’s listed for sale here and here’s how it turned out:

For Day 3, the prompt word was “roasted” so I wanted to do a funny painting with a peanut. LOL! I call this one “How Peanut Oil is Really Made” and it’s listed here. How much fun is this guy:

Then came Day 4 which had the word “spell”. The best spell of all (in my opinion) is a love spell of course! Love potion number 9 is here front and center in an apothecary bottle. I love it and called it “The Ultimate Spell”! It’s listed here and here’s how it turned out:

And then today’s word for Day 5 is “chicken”. Oh the joy! This was my take on that word and man, was I giggling while working on this guy! I call him “Block Party President” and left that grill closed so you can use your imagination as to what his specialty is. He’s listed here and here’s the finished piece:

Be sure to keep an eye out for a new giveaway that will start tomorrow. I’m excited about that too! How is that one song goes – you can’t ever have too much fun, right? Am I right or am I right? 😀

Inktober!

Inktober is here! Have you heard of it? In short, it’s an artists’ drawing challenge that has really picked up steam and followers and the idea is that we create a new ink drawing every day in the month of October. Yesterday was day one and I decided to participate for the first time ever! Here’s my ACEO ink drawing, which was my work in progress:

There is a list that are prompt words in which you can use that list as a basis for your work. I don’t plan on going by that list entirely but do plan on doing it a few times to see how that goes. I figured one challenge with trying a drawing a day for 31 days was probably going to be enough of a push for myself. 🙂

He was finished off in watercolors and colored pencils and is now listed here on eBay. This is the finished piece, entitled “Awakening”:

So much fun!

The Busy Season

I can’t believe it’s almost October! This begins the busiest season I have through the year. Ornament orders trickle in off and on through the entire year but this time of year, everyone wants to get a special and thoughtful gift for others. It’s always an honor to be asked.

These are some local ornaments I was asked to create and just finished this week:

How much fun! Oh how I wish ornament orders were spread out more through the year. I love taking my time with them and really enjoy creating them. But, alas, this is usually not the case. That being said, if you know that you want to order them, please order as soon as possible. Even though you may not need them until December, please order now. A few physical limitations such as a pinched nerve and wrist/hand problems will limit me from the 12-16 hour days I have spent the last few years painting down to more breaks and less time at the paint desk. This year, I will be turning off the shop earlier than ever to make sure I can physically fill orders in plenty of time and with the least amount of damage to myself. That’s tough to think about but has become a necessity. 🙂

I’m excited to see what requests are made from me this year.

Embracing Life

There are no brakes on life. It’s hard and fast and furious if we fight it and try to slow it down. Since that doesn’t work, what if we embrace it – no matter what the old devil has thrown at us? He will make sure to distract us with things that keep us down rather than build us up. He makes evil things look like something we want or something we should want in order to be happy. But we never are.

I painted this painting called “Hello World” back in 2015:

Scan.BMP

It’s funny my very own work means something more to me now than it did back then. When I painted it, I was thinking of a world of possibilities and welcoming those possibilities. And, I still do think of this.  Now, I also see him/her outstretched and looking to God for guidance and being open, welcoming His presence. Since there are large buildings, I imagine him/her to be in the city where there is lots of noise and distractions but he/she is focused, has direction and determination.

Because of all this, I love the painting even more. I’ve held on to this piece for a good deal of time but I do feel the time is right.  I have it listed in the shop .

I hope this piece brings someone joy, just as it has me.

The Bee’s Knees

So do bees have knees?

When I painted this painting, I questioned that over and over in my mind. If they do, they sure are cute ones! A little while back, I created this painting that I titled “The Buzz”:

IMG_2612

Daisies have long been my favorite flower. They find their way in my paintings from time to time, but the inspiration behind this piece was another artist’s work I had found on eBay. Actually, I tried to purchase it for myself and was outbid at the last second. If it were to do over, I’d put a larger bid in there now! 🙂

A good deal of time passed and even though I could no longer see it or see even who created it, I longed to get it out of my soul and onto canvas in a style of my own. I so wish I could remember and if you happen to know, please leave a comment. I know the original one was in oil and was more of an impressionist style, if that helps. I could have had more or less bees and/or flowers, too.

When I painted my version, it turned out to be very popular on my Facebook page, so I thought I’d go ahead and offer some art print in a limited quantity in the shop here.

Okay, so I had a little fun with creating the listing for the shop, too. I played around with a virtual room to see what the print would look like framed in there. That was so much fun to do!

I’m planning to offer more digital downloads of some of my popular pieces as well. They are so affordable for any budget and it would let more people enjoy the piece. Sharing the joy so to speak.
