‎”Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life.” ~ John Lubbock, Sr.

Last night I had posted my new daisy painting that I have called “Pure” on my Facebook wall. Immediately a sweet little lady saw it and had to have it as she’s redecorating her bedroom. This is it:

That one, though is ACEO size 2.5×3.5 inches and available in my cozy loft etsy shop…but she wants a larger one in a 16×20, so I’ve started working on that now.

There is something that I can’t describe in words about how I feel when someone wants something I’ve painted. Art is personal to me and these are my thoughts and emotions going into what I do, just as I suppose it is for many artists. So, for someone to cherish my work enough to want to own it, well it’s humbling, wonderful and makes me feel vulnerable at the same time. xoxoxo

Stand Out

I’m fascinated with black. It’s been my favorite color since I was old enough to grow out of my “little girls like pink” stage of life. Maybe because my hair is naturally the blackest black…I’m just not sure my fascination. For whatever reason, however, it remains a color I’m drawn to and intrigued by. It’s mysterious, dark and ominous.

In my newest work, I wanted to accentuate on the heavy use of black and white, yet punch it with a splash of color. This one is similar to the splash of color  in my recent “Intent” piece (see my post this week). I chose the dutch iris because it’s a beautiful flower first of all but the meaning of an iris is “faith, hope and wisdom”…can’t we all use more of those things in our lives?

This painting will be listed in my etsy shop in a couple of days, so this is a preview only 🙂

Enjoy! xox

Shopping and Destruction

Well I have two parts to my post today….let’s get the ugly DESTRUCTION part out of the way first…

I spent the better part of 7 hours working on a painting today that I ended up scrapping completely and it’s currently in my trash can LOL!! A little bit of a different type of brush and experimenting with fur….well let’s just say that will be a cool technique to use in the future but only if I have a smaller brush than the one I tried out. Hopefully I’ll have something new to show tomorrow.

As for the shopping, I went to the hobby store today and oh gosh I could shop in there for hours and spend oodles of money. However, I just came out with a new pad of art paper. I decided to stray from my typical Arches paper and chose a Canson paper….will let you know how that goes.

I was reading through a blog some time ago and came across the art on a book cover that inspired me. I bookmarked the page and then found it again a few days ago.

What I loved about it was the fact that it was done in all black and white…only the lips had a tint of red and the eyes had a tint of blue. I was so incredibly drawn to it and just had to paint my own version of it.

Here’s my finished piece, 9×12 acrylics on bristol:

I had SO much fun doing this piece and it feels as though she has many stories to tell.

She’ll be listed in my etsy shop “thecozyloft” very soon. Thanks for stopping by to see me 🙂

Wow it’s been …

Wow it’s been so long since I’ve been here to visit my friends and to blog. My life has been through a whirlwind of things since I’ve written last. I bought a house, started my own cleaning business, went through some heartache, and found myself in a new relationship. And, that’s the extremely condensed version.

Fast forward to know and I’m happy to say I’ve picked up my paintbrush again. All things seem to get me back there and being able to paint and create makes me feel different from anything else. It allows me to decompress.

With that being said, I have A LOT to make up for since I’ve been gone so long. In honor of that (and to push and challenge myself), I’m going to make a blog post here every day for 37 days beginning today. This will go through the rest of this month and all of April. I almost did it for 30 days but starting on April Fool’s Day just seemed wrong LOL so here we go.

My focus lately has seemed to be owls. I’ve always been drawn to them and even created a shop on etsy called “theowlbarn” a few years ago. Sadly, I’ve been away from it for a good while now but have been listing a few things here and there in it as I complete new goodies.

This post will catch you all up to today, by just checking out my shop:
The Owl Barn

I’ll see you again tomorrow and I hope you’ve all been well during my absence….
