Please come join my Facebook Fan page and this is what you’ll see:

Status Change

It’s official!! Well, sort of. On Facebook there’s all kinds of little things to do to tell viewers more about yourself. One of those is an area where you can put in your employer. Honestly, I’d never used that section before…until now.

I wanted to formally announce it here…I have officially entered my status as “Self-Employed Artist” now!!! YAY for life’s changes that make it more exciting and more interesting…

For once, I am extremely proud of my employment status – it seems to actually fit more than anything else ever has. 🙂

This week, I decided to enter a little NFAC (Nibblefest Art Contest) over on ebay. I joined the group and placed three listings (which was the max number we can place) up. I’m excited to say that as of this moment, I’ve been told I’m in second place with my silhouette owl that I mentioned a few posts ago!!

The winner is determined by the number of UNIQUE bidders, not actual number of bids. These end in about 48 hours, so I’m not sure where things will finish at but I’m just thankful to be a part of it, no matter what the outcome is. The winner will receive a trophy that can be placed on their “About Me” page.

Special thanks to my dear friend Tish who told me about this contest and encouraged me to enter. Thank you Tish!!! Love ya girl!

Good luck to all the artists who entered their outstanding owls in the contest – they are truly talented individuals with different styles. Please check them all out at and in the search bar, enter NFAC – enjoy!

A friend shared this poem with me last night. When she sent it, she talked to me about how when she’s at her doctor’s office, she reads it and it speaks to her every time. As I read it, I felt the same. It spoke to me. I needed to read this and I need to post it here so I can come back to it…and I need to have this framed and placed on my wall in my home so I can read it every single day.  Enjoy…

— written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s —

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Night and Day Difference

I have my final two entries complete for the contest. Here’s the final paintings:

 “Gotta Have Friends”

Several people requested that I do a “cutesy” owl, so the above was my answer to that…hopefully I covered “cutesy” in that painting. 🙂

“You’re Next”

With the “Twilight” phenomenon right now and a suggestion from a very dear friend of mine, I painted this evil creature as my last and final entry in the ebay NFAC (Nibblefest Art Contest) coming up tonight.

Alliecatbeads + Owl Silhouette

Thanks to a super sweet new friend on the etsy website, I had a perfect subject to paint for the owl contest starting tomorrow over on ebay! She found out I was doing an owl contest and asking for opinions on what type of owl painting and she began telling me about the great picture she snapped. Imagine this…it’s sunset and you are looking outside…you see an owl swoop up and land on a wire…the owl, pole and trees are in silhouette. Well, that’s the scene as she captured on film!

Here’s the finished piece, which be an entry in the contest:

If you are interested in some lovely bookmarks, jewelry, cards and other adorable items, please check out her shop by clicking here: alliecatbeads

Thanks so much Gina for the inspiring piece! I absolutely loved recreating that scene!!

Contest Help

I have an opportunity to enter a contest that is judged by the number of different bidders on an ACEO painting that will start at 99 cents…the subject is OWLS. My question: what kind of owl would be most interesting? Cutesy? Dark? Holiday?
