Light It Up!

This weekend has found us taking care of a project in our home that has really been bugging me. In our main bath, I’ve had a real dislike for the two lighting fixtures that we inherited with the house. Though there was nothing wrong with them, they are just very outdated and well, boringly ugly. The ceiling light is still there for now and it’s just a simple clear and frosted round glass fixture. The other one was a gold and wood bar light with 5 bulbs. What I liked about the old fixture was all the light from it and that the light was directed out and not up or down like so many fixtures are.

Over the past month or so, I’ve really been trying to figure out what I wanted in there. I considered uplighting, downlighting, track lighting…pretty much everything. In the end, I chose a fluorescent light that has a decorative trim on either end in a pewter type finish found today at our local Lowe’s Home Improvement store:

I am so happy with it! It is a beautiful brightly lit room now and I am incredibly happy with the look of it. Most fluorescent fixtures are true eyesores but I was incredibly happy to have found one I could live with. Now, the ceiling fixture will need to go next but for now I’m incredibly content with how it looks. :)

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

I know what you are thinking…all this time I’ve been writing this blog and there’s been hardly ANY movie posts. Mainly because for the past 8 years or so, I’ve been really avoiding movies except for an occasional few that really stood out. I can’t really explain why that has been that way. Before that, I used to love movies and would watch them all the time. I think it’s because of the introduction of ebay and etsy. This allowed me to have an outlet for my creations and has pretty much taken over my life for a while. While I’m still working on those things, I’ve been taking it at a much different pace. I like where I am right now. I’m truly happy.

That leads me to this - another movie post…We rented Paul Blart: Mall Cop this past weekend. The trailer for this movie was hysterical and I thought it would really be a funny movie. We wanted to rent it this weekend and it took so much time to find it. We even ended up driving to a nearby city to get it.

In the end, it was just silly though…and silly in a bad way. The actions in the movie were silly enough that I found it mostly un-funny. There were parts that warranted a chuckle, but overall not worth the viewing to me. This could have been a really funny movie and I think it fell apart in the writing. Kevin James was perfect for the role, but I felt the movie let him down. I didn’t feel the chemistry between “Paul” and “Amy” and couldn’t cheer them on because I had no investment in them making it. It was, however, pretty clean as far as language and actions, making it something that might appeal to families.

At any rate, I wouldn’t watch this one again nor recommend it to others. If you have seen it, what did you think?

We Marked Our Calender!

Almost one year ago, I blogged about an AWESOME new singer named Paolo Nutini. Click here to read my previous post. Well…I have some great news! Charles and I are going to see him live in July!! We booked it this weekend and let me tell you, I can hardly wait to go!

paolo

His new CD “Sunny Side Up” debuts June 2nd. Charles and I have been anticipating it for a while, so we’ve been hearing every tidbit we possibly can in the meantime.

There’s something so raw about his voice and his work. Also performing that evening will be Matt Hires and Erin McCarley. Though I didn’t know either of these singers, I have heard samples from them and I’m excited to hear them, too!  This show will be so very awesome!

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day to Everyone – what a perfect time to reflect on our country and our military. An excellent time to remember those who we have lost in battle. It’s also the right moment to remember those who have served and are still serving our country and those who have been injured – physically, mentally, emotionally. Let us all be thankful and respectful not only today, but every day.

To the families of those soldiers whom we have lost – thank you. Our prayers are with you and words cannot express the gratitude we feel.

From the bottom of my heart:

Hope your day is filled with love and thanks…

The World is a Playground…

yes_man

We watched this movie this week. There were times “Carl” and “Allison” were speaking to each other and the things they said would literally make you laugh out loud. It was so unexpected and funny! I hope you watch this movie as it’s lighthearted and fun. Not a really, really AWESOME movie, but a solidly funny one.

My favorite line of the whole movie? The world is a playground. Think about that. The world is a playground. How much lighter would this world be if we approached most of life with that thought? I say let’s play!!
